Lying on my back, on the bed
My chest heaves as though I had just run a marathon
Rather than slowly make my way to the sink
to cough up a large yellow ball of slime
The past two weeks have been grand.
Eric home, parties and gifts
Family, friends: no time for the laptop
Bloggers on my mind but tucked in a desk drawer
He is on the road again
My plans included dinner with the girls
Catching up on mail; both postal and internet
A weekend of productivity with work looming ahead
There is a jack hammer in my chest
It sounds with every breath and keeps me awake
I stay perfectly still, try not to rupture the volcanic
cough
that sends me into the bathroom again
Like a cat with a hairball
I wheeze
Face melting under the strain of mucus
Eyes dry but watery, how can that be?
The relapse has come in full force
Strong and powerful
Condemning any chance I have
At peace.
Amy,
ReplyDeleteHope you are under a Dr's care and with an antibiotic in hand. That is what was very necessary for me to get well. Thinking about you.......... get strong, be strong!
Meredith
Thank you Meredith. If I sound like this tomorrow, I'll make my way to the clinic for sure.

Time to rest and take care of yourself, do what’s needed to shake this thing. May it be short lived so that you’re on your feet in no time. Get better soon.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate it Laurel. I felt better for thirty seconds today so I cleaned a sink with bleach and then found myself back in bed.

Hi Jan, Why I fight going to a doctor, I have no idea. Amy
DeleteHow awful, Amy. I think it was Shakespeare that said,
ReplyDelete"Get thee to a doctor!"
Can't believe you had enough energy to write a poem. Get well soon, lady.
Sending Healthy Wishes,
Ella
LOL, that's about all I did yesterday.
